The Sponsor A Family MN program has a rich heritage in the Twin Cities area, and has been servicing those in need for over 35 years. It is a program that matches families in need with sponsors who shop for them to provide basic clothing, household goods, toys and food gift cards during the holiday season. The families we serve are pre-approved by the teachers and case mangers in our partner organizations. They have the expertise and direct rapport with our families to assess their needs and help them complete their wish lists.
We believe these gifts are important because families in poverty can not take full advantage of the social service or educational programs offered if their time and energy is spent struggling to get these most simple and fundamental supplies.
We believe these gifts are important because they go beyond the material, providing a direct, personal and tangible way to demonstrate to our clients that others know their needs and care about their success.
History
The Sponsor A Family program was started over 35 years ago by volunteers as a program of Catholic Charities, and has also partnered with Lutheran Social Services to serve those in poverty. Sponsor A Family MN is now an independent program, and has partnered with the Sisters of St Joseph Carondelet Ministries and has 501c3 exempt status. We are a nondenominational program, and gladly serve all types of families in need.
